Arrive
in Arequipa: Arrive to Arequipa, Peru via Lima, Peru. Meet
an ATAC representative at the airport who will take you to your
hotel. Explore Arequipa, a town built from white stone. Stay at
the Hotel del Lago.

Drive,
on road to Cotahuasi canyon, to Aplao: Departing in the afternoon,
travel by van through the Peruvian altiplano countryside, visiting
pueblos along the way. Dine in the town of Aplao and camp in the majestic
Colca valley.

Drive to Cotahuasi village: Continue by road over
a 15,500 foot pass with views of Mount Coropuna (21,000 ft) before
arriving to the remote mountain village of Cotahuasi. Explore Cotahuasi's
narrow streets and masonry work remnant of the Incas. In the evening,
experience hot springs. Lodge at La Sipia Inn.

Hiking
day, following ancient Inca trails: While mules carry all
river gear and supplies for the trip, hike 10 hours on Incan engineered
trails around Sipia Falls into the canyon of the Cotahuasi. Witness
dramatic views 3000 feet above the river level, then descend to
the Valinga footbridge that marks our first river camp.

Whitewater
rafting class IV and V rapids: Raft 100 kilometers of continuous
class
IV+ whitewater in a canyon twice as deep as the Grand
Canyon. Encounter three class class
V and a few possible portages. Each night, camp on
Incan terraces and explore their ruins. On Day 10, arrive to the
end of the river journey where the road meets the river. Travel
by van two hours back to Arequipa. Lodge at the Hotel del Lago.

Return
home: Fly from Arequipa to Lima, then home. Or on to your
